This reviewer has just binged both seasons of the popular Norwegain Netflix show, Ragnarok, and Play’n Go’s Odin Protector of Realms took us right back into a similar Norse mythology universe. You need to collect 120 winning symbols in a single cascading sequence to charge the Ring Meter to the gold level. This can lead to a grid full of matching symbols, and Odin’s 3 randomly triggered Abilities will come in handy when you least expect it. The math model is solid except for the customizable RTP ranges, but both the potential and the volatility has been reduced compared to Honey Rush, which follows a similar template.

The golden blade wild can land in any position, and it steps in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combos. You need at least 5 matching symbols in a cluster to win, and all winning symbols are removed from the grid via the Cascading Wins feature. New symbols drop down to fill the gaps, and this process repeats indefinitely as long as you keep winning. All winning symbols are collected in the Ring Meter, and this triggers Forged Ring features when a certain amount is collected.

You need to collect 30, 70 and 120 symbols to reach level 1, 2 and 3, respectively, and this triggers the Bronze, Silver and Gold Forged features.

These create a cluster win in the center of the grid based on the middle symbol, and the size depends on the tier activated. The Bronze level awards a 7+ symbols cluster win, while Silver and Gold awards 12-19 and 20-37 matching symbols. The Gold level can thus fill the whole grid.

Odin is seen on the right-hand side, and he will trigger reel modifiers corresponding to his abilities/traits at random times. These are as follows:

• Wisdom – upgrades the symbol in the middle to a random high value symbol or wild before the Forged Ring feature triggers. If it’s already a premium symbol, it will be upgraded to a higher tier or turned into a wild.
• Power – removes 2 randomly chosen symbol types on the grid, and this can only happen if you are 5 symbols from triggering the Forged Ring feature and there are no more winning clusters in sight.
• Glory – awards 2 to 8 randomly placed wilds on the grid, and it will only trigger after a non-winning spin.

Clearly inspired by their very own Honey Rush, Play’n Go has decided to tone down the math model a bit in Odin Protector of Realms. This might seem a bit strange given the hardcore Norse theme, but it leaves you with a more forgiving volatility combined with a decent 5,000x your stake potential. Visually, the game is as solid as usual from this developer, and it follows their grid slot recipe to the letter.

It’s all about landing consecutive cascades to charge the Ring Meter, not unlike the Colony feature in Honey Rush, but here you also have the 3 Odin’s Abilities features that will lend you a helping hand at random times. It’s hard to point to any obvious flaws in this release, except, of course, for the customizable RTP ranges, and this is really a solid production through and through.
