Bell-Fruit Games has been playing around with the classic Fishin’ Frenzy concept for a while now, and Catch of the Day has borrowed some of the visuals, and not least the Fisherman, from their own Fishing Cash Pots. Only the fish symbols come with a transparent background this time though, while the opposite is the case in the predecessor. Inspired has decided to come full circle, it seems, as this is a pure Fishin' Frenzy clone job.

They’ve had great success with Big Fishing Fortune, which comes with an original bonus round twist or two, but this time you’re not in for any kind of surprises. The visuals are even more dated and simplistic than in the previous installments, and it’s all about reeling in cash fish prizes via the Fisherman Wild in the bonus round. The 95.05 % RTP is somewhat of a drawback though, not least compared to the source of inspiration.

You win regular payouts by landing 3 to 5 matching symbols from left to right on a payline, and the premium symbols pay between 20 and 200 x your stake for 5-oak wins. All the royals pay 10x your stake for the same, and the Fisherman Wild can only appear in the bonus round. The Cash Fish symbols serve as regular pay symbols as well, and all types pay 20x for 5 of a kind.

You need at least 3 scatter symbols anywhere in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and landing 3, 4 or 5 scatters gives you 10, 15 or 20 free spins, respectively.

You cannot retrigger the feature or win extra spins, as there are no scatters in the bonus round. The Cash Fish come with values between 2x and 50x your stake, and you need the Fisherman Wild anywhere in view to collect all present fish prizes.

If you land more than one Fisherman Wild at the same time, with cash fish also present, all the cash fish prizes are collected as many times as there are fisherman wilds present. Also, if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 Fisherman Wilds on the same payline, you win 1, 10, 50 or 500 x your stake, respectively.

Finally, there is a Gamble feature you can turn on/off as you see fit, and it allows you to gamble any winnings of 5x your stake or above. You can choose to gamble to win more money, or you can choose to gamble to win free spins. This is done on 2 different wheels with red and green segments, and landing on red means you lose your winnings.

There is plenty of competition in the highly popular Fishin’ Frenzy copycat genre, and players who enjoy the ‘true to form’ dated and simple appearance will not be disappointed by the almost amateurish looking visuals on display in Bell-Fruit Games’s Catch Of The Day. The release seems kind of pointless however, as it offers nothing new compared to the original Reel Play classic. Perhaps Inspired ran out of inspiration or something, we don’t know.

Even the symbol values are identical to the original Fishin’ Frenzy, and a full screen of the top-tier Trophy symbol awards 2,000x your stake. The base game comes mostly with smaller top-up wins though, and everything revolves around the reel ‘em bonus round. The 95.05 % RTP is well below average, and also below the 96.12 % you get in the original game, so again, we would rather have another go at Reel Play’s iconic release than this rather uninspired copycat effort.
