When you examine Booming Games’ back catalog of more than 180 releases, it becomes evident that they don’t have a single remarkable slot that anyone would remember. Mighty Gorilla is hardly gonna change that, at least not in our humble opinion. It’s a pretty mediocre jungle-themed release that comes with 3 tried and tested features that tend to trigger a tad more often in the bonus round.

The measly 1,403x potential, combined with high volatility, is enough to repel any hardcore gambler out there up front, and expanding wilds, random wilds and symbol removal cascades is hardly enough to reel in the experienced mainstream crowd. The audiovisual presentation is not very convincing either, and the gorilla screams might hurt your ears if you’re using headphones.

The Barrel Wild steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combos, and the Random Wilds feature can trigger at any stage in the game. This awards 1 to 24 wilds randomly placed across the grid, but keep in mind that the wilds hold no value of their own. Premium symbols (or Majors, as they’re called here) pay between 6 and 15 x your stake.

In addition to the Random Wilds feature, you also have Bursting Wilds (‘wild’ written with red text in front of the golden barrel). These can also be part of the Random Wilds feature, and they expand to cover the full reel whenever they land.

Bursting Wilds can only land on reels 2 to 6 in the base game, but they can appear on all reels in the bonus round.

In addition, you have the Minor Elimination feature, and this one can also trigger in all stages of the game. It effectively removes all lower value ‘Minor’ symbols from the grid, and this triggers a cascade where only Major, Wilds and/or Scatters will land.

You need 3, 4, 5 or 6 game logo scatters anywhere in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and this awards 8, 12, 16 or 20 free spins, respectively. The feature can be retriggered the same way, and it plays out just like the base game. You seem to get more frequent feature triggers though, but we don’t know for sure if this is accurate.

Non-UK players, and anyone living in an eligible jurisdiction, can buy the bonus round directly from the in-game menu. This will set you back 70x your stake, and it guarantees 3+ scatters on the spin that follows.

Booming Games is closing in on the 200 releases milestone, but they have yet to conjure up a single smash hit. It’s like they’re content with churning out one shelf-filler after another, and Mighty Gorilla is no exception in that regard. Although not quite dated, there is still something bland and tame about their visual style. Even tried and tested features, like expanding wilds and random wilds, are somehow made unexciting in this game.

The measly 1,403x potential must, of course, take some of the blame, or perhaps a lot, but it’s not only that. It’s just the way everything plays out that lacks punch, and you just don’t feel that a lot of time or effort has gone into the end result. In addition, you get a large 6x4 grid with only 30 fixed paylines, which seems kind of pointless, and overall there are just too many better jungle slots out there for something like this to be noticed.
