There are many treasures buried in the overcrowded ancient Egypt genre, and it can be easy to overlook new installments sometimes, due to sheer theme fatigue. Although nicely done, there is nothing that will visually surprise experienced players in Treasures of Ra, and StakeLogic is clearly tipping the hat to the equally overcrowded ‘Book slot’ genre. Take a peek under the hood, however, and you will find a few highly capable surprises.

The base game is kept somewhat interesting by the Countdown Wilds, and these can linger for up to 3 spins each. Things get far more interesting when they come with multipliers in the bonus round though, but that’s not even the main attraction. You also get Question Mark symbols that can potentially fill the grid with matching symbols, and this can lead to total payouts up to a solid 20,000x your stake.

You can turn on the Super Stake ante bet if you wish, and this doubles your bonus round chances if you’re willing to pay 2x your regular stake. The Wild symbol, which most likely is a depiction of some kind of ancient Egyptian deity, comes with a Countdown feature.

Review Summary

It would really be a shame if a rock solid and innovative game like Treasures of Ra were to drown in the “noise” of the run of the mill Ancient Egypt theme. This is a perfect example of how it’s crucial to not judge the ‘book’ by its cover, and clearly StakeLogic has found inspiration in the ultra-popular ‘Book of’ slot series. There is plenty of mediocrity (and worse) in the Ancient Egypt genre, but you’ll miss out if you don’t give this one a spin.

The base game version of the Countdown Wild will prime you for what’s to come in the bonus round, and everything is taken up several notches in the feature. Not only do you get multiplier countdown wilds, but the Question Mark symbol steals the show. Not unlike the ‘Book of’ mechanic, it can lead to full screen payouts, and these are again boosted by the multiplier wilds.

The 20,000x potential is way above most ‘Book slots’, however, and Treasures of Ra is a highly satisfying game that would perhaps have been better served with a more original theme.
