Charlie Chance XReelz Review

Once again the mild-mannered, but ever so unfortunate, Charlie Chance finds himself sweating in the underworld, after striking a bad deal with the She-Devil herself. Charlie Chance Xreelz follows where Play’n Go’s original game, Charlie Chance in Hell to Pay, left off. This is true at least in terms of the audiovisual presentation, but the math model and the features makes this sequel a very different game altogether.

The black & white, retro aesthetics has not lost its charm, but we were hoping for even more slapstick animations this time. This is sadly not the case, as you’ll hardly see Charlie at all, except as the top-tier symbol on the reels. The Xreelz multiplier feature takes center stage here, but it sounds more innovative than it actually is. The math model is stronger for sure, but we hope that Play’n Go expands on the slapstick element if there is a next time.

Charlie Chance Xreelz Features

The wild symbol steps in for all regular pay symbols, and it also pays the same as the top-tier Charlie symbol. You thus win 20x your stake when 5 wilds land on a payline.

The Xreelz mechanic conjures up 2 skulls above the reel set, and these share a ‘conveyor belt tongue’ filled with multipliers up to x5. Whatever multiplier stops above the reel containing the wild, gets applied to all wins that respective reel is involved in.

You trigger a Second Chance Respin whenever you land 2, 3 or 4 scatters anywhere in sight. This feature is designed to land you more scatters, and thus improve your Bonus Round tier. Each new scatter that lands triggers another respin, and the feature goes on until you reach the goal of 5 scatters, or land a non-scatter respin.

You need a minimum of 3 scatters to trigger the Flaming Free Spins feature, and all 3 tiers of the bonus round come with a starting roaming wild. Each new wild that lands also becomes a sticky roaming wild, and the Xreelz multiplier conveyor belt is always active.

Review Summary

Charlie Chance XReelz comes with essentially the same soundtrack, and the same 1930s-inspired visuals as the Charlie Chance Hell to Pay. However, these are 2 very different games in every other way. You now get 5 reels instead of 3, and the significantly increased number of win ways, combined with the x25 max multiplier, can lead to solid 20,000x your stake payouts.

The previous 6,666x potential might be a better fit for the underworld theme, but we still prefer the bigger number. The slapstick animation featuring the two main characters is nowhere to be found here, although there is a dash of humor in the skull animation that accompanies the XReelz feature. This feature might sound fancy, but it boils down to a randomly assigned win multiplier, which comes with 3 different range tiers in the bonus round.
