Happy Fish Review

Booongo seems to have gotten tired of paying for the Megaways license after only 2 very mediocre and unmemorable efforts, and when you put so little heart into it we also fail to see the point of the extra expense. You might as well use the trademarked engine for free by slapping on a different name, like Megalines, and call it a day, which is exactly what they have done with Happy Fish.

Ironically, this release is a step in the right direction, despite the engine rip-off, as it comes with a more familiar and mood-lifting tropical fish theme, as well as reliable features that can be deadly under the right conditions. You get wilds and multiplier ‘Power Wilds’ up to x3, which can lead to decent payouts, and these are sticky in the bonus round. The 10,000x potential is decent, but overall Booongo needs to be more transparent about the stats of their games.

Happy Fish Slot Features

The Megalines engine gives each reel a random number of positions between 2 to 7 per spin, which gives you 64 to 117,649 ways to win. You win by landing matching symbols from left to right on adjacent reels regardless of position, and the 4 premium fish symbols pay between 2 and 5 x your stake for 6-oak. The Wild symbol can appear on reels 2 to 5 only, and it steps in for all pay symbols to help complete winning combinations.

In addition to regular wilds, you can also land Power Wilds on reels 2 to 5, and these come with multipliers of x2 or x3 attached. The power wilds can appear both in the base game and in the bonus round, and they boost any winning combo they are part of.

If more than one power wild is part of the same win, the respective multipliers will multiply with each other before being applied.

You need 3, 4, 5 or 6 game logo scatters anywhere in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and this awards 8, 10, 12 or 14 free spins, respectively. All wilds that land during the feature become sticky for the duration of the bonus round, and this goes for multiplier power wilds too. Non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can buy the bonus round for 100x the stake, and this guarantees 3 to 6 scatters on the spin that follows.

The 200 Spins Happy Fish Slot Experience

You get to see a few decent wild- and power wild wins in the base game, before we purchase the bonus round at 1:05 into the 2-minute highlights video. You can see for yourself how many sticky wilds and power wilds we racked up in the feature by simply hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

Compared to Booongo’s previous dynamic reel efforts, both branded with the licensed Megaways engine, the colorful Happy Fish at least brightens your mood a little as you grind along in the base game. The multiplier Power Wilds award decent top-up wins most of the time, but with up to 117,649 win ways and multiplying multiplier wilds, the possibility is always there of cracking the 10,000x potential from a single base game spin.

There is hardly anything new to see here though, but sticky wilds and multiplier wilds is a true and tested bonus round formula that can be engaging when things go your way.

Getting more than 8 free spins seemed hard in our experience, and you’ll most likely need to rack up a decent amount of strategically placed sticky multiplier wilds early on to truly make a dent. Boosted back to back wins are never wrong, of course, and some players might enjoy the simplicity on offer here.
