Colt Lightning Review

We have to say that Colt Lightning comes with a somewhat strange intro. The Colt is bolting through the desert at full speed, until it’s suddenly struck by a lightning bolt. With this release, Play’n Go has essentially let loose a follow-up to their previous supernatural North American animal slot, Beast of Fire, and this time it’s centered around horses instead of buffaloes. The Colt is the horse in this game, and not a gun, just to be clear.

The supernatural element is not as striking (no pun intended) as it was in the predecessor perhaps, but it shines through in different ways. You get extra Colt symbols on a regular basis in the base game, as well as the Rapid Re-Spins feature that expands the grid. The latter doesn’t trigger all that often though, but you can expect more of it in the Super Colt Bonus Round. The 25,000x potential is the same, and featurewise the two games are quite similar as well.

The premium animal symbols pay between 2 and 6 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, at least in the base game.

There is a Super Colt top-tier symbol worth 12x your stake for 5 of a kind in the bonus round, and the regular Colt (horse) is the top-tier symbol also in the base game. The Wild symbol appears on the 3 middle reels only, and steps in for pay symbols to help complete wins.

The Colt Strike feature triggers at random times in the base game, and it increases the number of Colt symbols on the reel strips for the current spin.

The Rapid Re-Spin feature triggers when a horseshoe lands on the middle reel, and that’s also the only reel it can appear on. The reels expand by one extra position for the respin, which also increases the number of win ways.

You can retrigger the Rapid Re-spins feature 2 times, which gives you +3 extra rows. The maxed out grid of 6-7-7-7-6 comes with 12,348 ways to win, and you cannot trigger the bonus round during Rapid Re-spins. Your Colt Strike chances are increased though, and everything resets when the feature ends.

The Super Colt Spins bonus round triggers when you land 3 scatters on reels 2, 3, and 4, and this gives you 10 free spins.

The regular Colt symbol is replaced by the Super Colt symbol for the duration of the feature, and it pays twice as much. You cannot trigger the Colt Strike feature, but Horseshoe symbols will award respins that expand the grid by +1 row up to 6-7-7-7-6, at best.

The Horseshoe symbol no longer appears once you have maxed out the grid, and the grid never resets for as long as the bonus round lasts. You can retrigger the feature by landing 3 scatters in view, and this awards +10 extra spins. You can get up to 100 free spins in total this way, and the grid resets once you return to the base game.

Review Summary

Colt Lightning looks like your regular North American prairie animal slot at first glance, but the supernatural element soon reveals itself. Similar to Beasts of Fire, but perhaps a tad more toned down in this release, it literally shines through the eyes of some of the animals on the grid.

You get plenty of Colt Strike triggers in the base game, and the Rapid Re-spins feature triggers on a somewhat regular basis as well.

It’s kind of cool that the whole grid is galloping through the desert in the bonus round, although it’s also a bit strange when you think about it. Anyway, the Super Colt bonus round is all about expanding the grid, and Rapid Re-spins trigger more frequently as well. The Super Colt symbol doubles in value, and all these factors can help close you in on the solid 25,000x potential. It comes with a 1 in 100 million hit rate though, but at least you know larger wins are possible.
