Anyone who’s watched Davind Fincher’s Seven from 1995 will probably conjure up a pretty vivid image in their mind whenever they hear the word “gluttony”. NoLimit City might just replace that image for you, which may or may not be a good thing, if you can stomach playing Gluttony slot for long enough. We’re unsure if this is the first release in what’s to become a whole series of the 7 deadly sins, and we’re even unsure if we hope so. Food lovers will get their mouthful in this game for sure, and you start out in a pleasant upper-class restaurant setting.

The base game is filled with different dishes on the reels, but the idyllic soundtrack is sometimes interrupted by soundbites giving you a hint of what’s to come. The regular bonus rounds aren’t anything too special, but you can level them up to get a better win multiplier. The main attraction, if we can call it that, is the FEDCON 1 feature. This is where the ‘Fat Bastard’ is stuffing himself endlessly at the center of the “food maze”, while his multiplier levels up the more he consumes.

The 32,000x potential is decent, but we had to skip lunch after testing this one.

The premium symbols pay between 2 and 10 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the cooked chicken Wild symbol steps in for any pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins. Winning symbols are removed via the Cascading mechanic, and this means that new and/or existing symbols drop down to fill the gaps. The process repeats as long as you keep winning.

The game comes with 2 different scatter symbols, namely the Silver Bell that appears on reels 2 to 5 and the Golden Bell that appears on reel 3 only. Different combinations of these scatters trigger the following features:

• 3 Silver scatters - awards the Order Up. FS round with 8 free spins.
• 1 Golden and 2 Silver scatters - awards the Double Up.

  

  FS round with 10 free spins and an x2 win multiplier.
• 2 Golden Bell and 1 Silver Bell scatter - awards the Quadruple Up. FS round with 12 free spins and an x4 win multiplier.
• 3 Golden Bell scatters - gives you +6 spins and triggers the FEDCON 1 feature.

Landing new golden bells during any of the features awards +2 extra free spins, and it also increases the win multiplier by +2. In the FEDCON 1 feature, the golden bells can appear on the outer reels only. When they do, it upgrades the outer reel values by +2 for the duration of the feature.

The xZone Sauce symbol adds a +1 multiplier to regular pay symbols, as well as wilds, that find themselves adjacent to this symbol. The xZone Sauce symbol can only land on the inner reels during the FEDCON 1 feature.

The Wild Pot can appear on reels 2 to 5 in either of the bonus rounds, and in the FEDCON 1 round, and it serves as a wild symbol that will collect food symbols in vertical and horizontal directions. The Wild Pot multiplier increases its multiplier by +1 per low-value symbols it collects, and +2 for premium symbols and wilds.

When at least one symbol is collected, the Wild Pot becomes sticky with its multiplier for the next spin. It lands on the inner reels only in the FEDCON 1 feature, and it collects food symbols from outer reels. This hinders the progression of the Fat Bastard upgrade meter.

The Golden Bell Spins feature triggers from 1 golden bell in view, and this gives you 2 respins boosted by an x2 win multiplier.

You get +2 extra respins if a golden bell lands on a respin, and this increases the win multiplier to x4. Landing another golden bell after that awards the FEDCON 1 bonus round.

The Order Up. Bonus Round upgrades per golden bell scatter you land, and you get +2 extra spins as well as +2 added to the win multiplier. When a golden bell scatter appears when you’ve reached a multiplier of x4, you upgrade to the FEDCON 1 feature with +6 free spins added to your tally. There is no way to retrigger the bonus round except for what we’ve already covered.

The FEDCON 1 Bonus Round is hard to describe to be honest. All wins start from the Fat Bastard symbol at the center of the “maze”, and it comes with a set of inner and outer reels.

You get +2 extra spins when you level up, and this adds +1 to the Fat Bastard multiplier while also awarding a respin. You upgrade to levels 2, 3, 4, and 5 by collecting 20, +30, +40, and +50 winning symbols, respectively, but premiums and wilds contribute +2 to the Fat Bastard progress bar.

Finally, non-UK players, and anyone eligible, will have access to the Bonus Buy Menu. Hit the yellow star on the left-hand side, and you get the following options in Gluttony:

• Pay 100x to get the Order Up. FS round with a max RTP of 96.08 %.
• Pay 1,000x to get the FEDCON 1 round with a max RTP of 96.09 %.

Pay 300x to get the Super Lucky Draw with a 40 % chance of the Order Up. round, a 10 % of the FEDCON 1 bonus, a 30 % chance of the Double Up. round, and a 20 % chance of the Quadruple Up. round.

Review Summary

We wouldn’t be surprised if NoLimit City turns this into a whole series revolving around the 7 deadly sins, and Gluttony is indeed vividly depicted as only this always controversial developer can. Calling the main guy Fat Bastard is not exactly politically correct in this day and age, but we’re unsure how many social justice warriors that pay attention to online slots anyway. The visuals will make you nauseous for sure, and this game is perfect if you want to skip a meal or two, or perhaps go a full day without wanting to eat anything.

Granted, the base game visuals aren’t that bad, as you get some delicious looking dishes on the grid, and the high-class restaurant setting isn’t too shabby either. The sound bites are a different story, however, and your first FEDCON 1 session will probably make your head spin. It’s like an endless maze of food items that build the Fat Bastard multiplier as you level up to get extra spins. It can go on for a good while, and the 32,000x potential comes with a 1 in 52m spins hit rate. Gluttony will probably be “hard to swallow” for more than a few players, but some will gobble up the humorous anti-PC controversy with an appetite for more.
