Badgers are crafty little critters for sure, and not least when it comes to dam building. Apparently they can dig for gold in mine shafts pretty well too, at least according to Yggdrasil’s Badger Miners. The game comes with videogame-like 3D visuals, where you get to see a few badgers in action below ground. A random multiplier system is active at all times, and it can multiply or add multipliers together to boost wins.

The reels are filled with badger characters, as well as mining equipment, and Yggdrasil has come up with an original and innovative Cash Wild feature. These wilds absorb all cash value they generate by taking part in line wins, and they nudge upwards per respin that generates a win. The premium symbols pay between 1.2 and 5 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the mining cart filled with gold nuggets is the Wild symbol in this game. The wild steps in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve line wins, and the regular wild holds no value of its own.

You will see Multipliers and so-called Operators above the 3 middle reels on the main grid, and the multiplier values vary between x2 and x100 per spin.

However, the operators will put a + or * between the multipliers, which means that the actual multiplier that will boost wins involving the relevant reels can be significantly larger than x100. A 5 * 5 value will award an x25 reel win multiplier, for example.

You can land Cash Wilds on the 3 middle reels, and they also step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins. In addition, this symbol absorbs the win amount of each win it partakes in, and the Cash Wild is nudged upwards one position per respin that follows a win. The multipliers do not change during the respins feature, and the feature ends when the Cash Wild does not produce a win.

The Bonus Round triggers from collecting 5 scatters either on the same base game spin, or in the respins feature. This gives you 7 free spins, and each additional scatter above the minimum of 5 awards +2 additional free spins on top of that.

The feature plays out similarly as the base game, but cash wilds remain in play until they reach the top of the grid even between free spins.

Review Summary

Badger Miners is an example of a game that looks more exciting at first glance than it actually is when you start playing. The multiplier system seemed exciting at first glance as well, but in practice it just never seemed to do all that much. The computer game 3D visuals are a nice touch, and the badgers are charming enough doing their thing in the mine. However, it kind of gets old too quickly when you’ve played for a while.

The Cash Wild feature has potential as an innovation, however, and we hope to see it in future releases as well. It absorbs the value of all wins it partakes in as it nudges upwards per respin, and with a decent multiplier boost that can lead to something significant. The only difference in the bonus round is that the cash wild remains in play between free spins, which can be helpful, of course, and the 10,000x potential is decent as well.

Still, Badger Miners just didn’t hit the spot for us, but we encourage players to check the demo game and come to their own conclusions.
