You’re taken into a Mad Max-inspired post-apocalyptic world in Push Gaming’s high-octane Mad Cars, and you get to meet 4 freaky steampunk characters dressed up in armors made from different car parts. The 5x6 grid is set in a dusty abandoned industrial complex of some kind, and the place is now being used for car racing of the rather daredevilish kind.

Cars keep cropping up at the bottom of the grid at random times in the base game, and they move and are upgraded via the modifiers from the top Boost Reel. They need to make it to the top to pay the prize though, and you get 5 cars at the same time in the bonus round. Persistent modifiers are also introduced in the feature, which makes it easier to close in on the solid 25,000x potential.

Regular symbols are removed during the feature, and you get a new car at the bottom when cars reach the finish line at the top. This also adds +1 extra free spin to the tally.

The Boost Reel is active in the bonus round as well, but the Survivor modifier is not present.

You get some additional modifier symbols however, and these are as follows:

• Line Up - makes all other cars line up on the same row.
• Persistent Payer - gives its value to all present cars per spin as long as it is present.

The comparison to Relax Gaming’s Money Train franchise is unavoidable, but Mad Cars stands firmly on its own two legs (or should we say its own four wheels). The game is high-tempo all the way, with stunning changes of scenery as you trigger the racing bonus round. This makes the post-apocalyptic world highly engaging, as the base game gives you car racing teasers compared to what goes on in the feature.

This is not an easy game to tame though, and it will throw you off in frustration many times as it keeps taking you by surprise.

You need those darn cars to cross the finish line to win after all, and the bonus round is about as bouncy and volatile as any high risk punter can hope for. The 25,000x potential is half of what MT2 offers, but it’s still a solid max win that tops off a thoroughly enjoyable car racing experience.
