Manic Potions Review

Greentube are a company that’s capable of coming up with some truly tremendous slots, but they are rarely flawless if you consider all the details. So how about the Manic Potions slot that the studio launched in January 2023. Well, we’ll tell you all the important bits in this review, and there’s no better place to start than the game’s playing field. It comes with a 5x4 setup and 1,024 ways to win by default, but you can expand the playing field and get even more ways to win via various gameplay features.

The theme of Manic Potions is, of course, all about magic and various mixtures that can produce various powerful effects. We’ve already seen plenty of alchemy slots before, but this one comes with polished audiovisuals and colorful symbols, so we’ve got nothing but praise for what the game’s designers came up with in that respect.

Unfortunately, things aren’t as rosy when it comes to the slot’s mathematical model. Its volatility is medium, and you can win some nice payouts as well, but the game’s overall default theoretical RTP is only 94.51%, which is well below the current industry average. As for the betting range, it goes from £0.20 to £80, so all is fine on that front.

Manic Potions Slot Features

There are 8 pay symbols in the Manic Potions slot, and the game features a dynamic paytable, so you can always easily check how much you stand to win per combination.

For low pays, there are your usual card suits, which pay only 0.8x your bet for a full set of six. For high pays, there are 4 different potions, and those pay 2x your bet for a full combo. That might not sound like much, but it’s worth remembering that there are always at least 1,024 ways to win in play.

In addition to regular pay symbols, you can also look forward to Wild symbols and Lock and Spin Scatters. As you’d expect, Wild symbols can substitute for any of the pay symbols in winning combinations, while Lock and Spin Scatters are there to trigger the Lock and Spin feature.

Manic Potions Slot – Lock and Spin Feature

To kick things off on the gameplay front, we have the Respin feature, which you can trigger simply by landing a winning combination with potion symbols. You’ll get not only a free respin, but also a modifier to work with, and this process repeats for as long as you keep getting high-paying winning combos.

There are four modifiers in total, and the most basic of them is a mystery win multiplier that will be added to all wins after the given respin.

Then, there’s the yellow potion modifier that expands Wilds into whole stacks, while the green potion modifier will give you an additional row of symbols. Finally, there’s the red potion modifier, which adds an additional reel to the field and that also allows wins from right to left.

Landing 4 or more Lock and Spin Scatters then triggers the Lock and Spin feature, which is a minigame that takes place on a completely different grid. Each position is its own individual reel, and your goal is to get as many bet multipliers as possible. You’ll get 3 respins to achieve that, though you’ll get that tally reset back to 3 whenever a new multiplier lands. Also, you can get matching multipliers to combine and free up positions, which allows you to land even more multipliers. Once you run out of respins, the multipliers will be added up and applied to your bet. It’s a nice concept, no doubt, but it’s a bit of a shame that it doesn’t really utilize the game’s theme and colorful visuals in any way.

Review Summary

All in all, Greentube once again released an interesting slot that nevertheless comes with some major weak points. While we do like how Manic Potions looks and plays, we can’t appreciate its low theoretical RTP and the fact that its Lock and Spin feature doesn’t really utilize the game’s theme in any way.
