Mayan Rush Slot Review, Demo Play, Payout, Free Spins & Bonuses

Mayan Rush is a Valley of the Gods copycat slot from Stakelogic, and you start out with a 1-3-5-3-1 reel setup. Winning symbols remove blocker tiles to clear the 5x5 grid, and this leads to a progressive multiplier respins feature. Turning on the Super Stake gives you an occasional Hold & Respins feature on non-winning spins.

Mayan Rush Review

Stakelogic blatantly ripping off a well-known slot like Valley Of The Gods seems about as out of character as Messi’s full sleeve tattoo. Just like the more-than-obvious source of inspiration, Mayan Rush is all about removing blocker tiles to unlock up to 3,125 win ways, which also happens to trigger the Multiplier Respins feature.

The math model is pretty similar between the 2 games as well, although the volatility is higher in this game. The big difference is found in the optional Super Stake feature. Normally, switching on the Super Stake means that existing features trigger more often, but not this time. A whole new feature can be triggered at random times here, which almost makes this 2 different games wrapped into one.

Mayan Rush Features

The name of the game, as already mentioned in the intro, is to remove tile blockers to open up the 5x5 grid as much as possible. You do this by landing winning combinations, and each winning symbol unleashes an orb that unblocks one tile. There are 12 tiles to unblock in total from the 1-3-5-3-1 default active reel setup.

Unblocking tiles will also increase the number of win ways from 45 up to 3,125.

The tiles reset on losing spins, but consecutive wins can help unblock all the tiles. This triggers the Rush Mode Respins feature. Winning symbol orbs are then collected in 2 different totem meters, depending on their respective colors:

  • The Multiplier Totem on the left-hand side starts out at 2x, and will increase with +1 every time the meter gets filled (5 blue symbol orbs collected).
  • The Life Totem on the right-hand side starts out with 1 life, and increases with +1 when filled (5 red symbol orbs collected). You lose 1 life on non-winning spins.

The feature continues as long as you don’t run out of lives on the Life Totem Meter. When the Life Meter goes to zero, you start over from scratch in the regular base game.

You can choose to play with the Super Stake feature active, but this will effectively double the price of each spin.

It also means that you will trigger a Hold & Respins Cash Collect feature on non-winning spins at random times.

You will land nothing but cash coins or blanks, and each coin you land resets the respins tally to 3 again. Each coin becomes sticky on the reels, and you also unblock 1 tile per coin you land. The cash coin values are random, and if you manage to unblock all the tiles, your total winnings are multiplied by 2x. If you fill the screen with only coins, the multiplier increases to 5x.

All wins can be gambled in a standard double or nothing feature. You attempt to guess the color or suit of a card before it’s drawn, and this will either double or quadruple your winnings. Be careful however, as guessing wrong means that you lose everything.

The 200 Spins Mayan Rush Experience

We decided to play with the Super Stake feature turned on, which was a good call. We actually landed a pretty decent payout from the Hold & Repins feature, and even more so than what we got from the Rush Mode Respins. You can check out all the highlights from our 200 spins session in the 5-minute video below.

Review Summary

It’s a bit surprising to see a well-established developer like Stakelogic blatantly ripping off a popular title like Yggdrasil’s Valley of the Gods.

Granted, Mayan Rush takes you to the Central American jungle instead of ancient egypt, but other than that the 2 games are similar in most ways. We’re unsure of the potential in this copycat title at the time of writing, but the higher volatility could indicate an improved max win.

Removing tiles by landing winning combos is still fun enough, and the Rush Mode multiplier respins can take you on a thrill-ride on occasions. However, all the “close, but no cigar” moments become frustrating after a while, and the Rush Mode will often finish before it’s even had time to get off the ground. The optional Super Stake Hold & Respins feature is therefore a welcome extra, but paying 2x your normal stake is not exactly cheap.

Pros

  • Unblock tiles to trigger progressive Multiplier Respins
  • Optional Super Stake Hold & Respins feature
  • High volatility and up to 3,125 win ways

Cons

  • Obvious Valley of the Gods copycat

If you love Mayan Rush you should also try:

Valley Of The Gods - was a big hit when Yggdrasil released it back in 2017, and it’s still going relatively strong to this day. It’s all about unblocking tiles here too, and increasing the multiplier as much as possible during the respins feature.

Valley Of The Gods 2 - is Yggdrasil’s follow-up game, and it comes with up to 20,160 ways to win. You increase win ways by unblocking tiles, and the respins feature comes with extra lives, wild reels and a progressive multiplier.

The volatility is medium/high, and you can win more than 6,000x here.

Kingdom of Gold: Mystic Ways - is a High 5 Games slot with 6 reels and 4,096 win ways - for starters. You will land arrow symbols to expand the reel set however, and this can lead to 10 row reels with a maximum of 1 million win ways. Benefit from added wilds, and a bonus round where wins hovering above 10,000x can be landed.
