However, the city in the backdrop is hardly burning or under any kind of duress. It all seems a bit haphazardly put together to be honest, and the features are not too imaginative either.

It might be an unfair comparison, but if you compare Gates of Troy to the 2004 Hollywood blockbuster, Troy, with Brad Pitt as an unforgettable Achilles, well, the contrast is stark. The battle of Troy was one of the most epic and legendary wars in recorded history, and it deserves a bit more action than what you get in this shelf-filler Play’n Go production.

Don’t get us wrong, you get solid audiovisuals as usual, but the game is lacking in guts, glory and fighting spirit.

It’s therefore suitable that the main characters are Helen and Paris, although Achillies figures as the wild. You get occasional multiplier wild wins, but the base game is otherwise a pretty tedious grind. The 10th spin wild reveal makes for a decent bonus round climax, but 3,000x is the most you can hope for anyway.
