Blueprint is back with yet another Ted adventure, and this time the foul-mouthed, stuffed bear has been given the megaways treatment. It was only a question of time before this had to happen, and needless to say, a lot of anticipation has been built up for this release. Usually, a healthy dose of megaways steroids entails that all departments of the game have been beefed up with extra meat on the bone. However, this is far from the case with Ted Megaways slot, unfortunately.

That game is just overloaded with features already, so instead Blueprint has decided to play it somewhat safe with their Megaways version. We certainly did, and we cannot say that we are not a bit disappointed that Blueprint has basically made a reskin of Return of Kong Megaways. The bonus round is really the only thing that saves the day here, as it comes with a 50,000x your stake potential. However, casual players and fans of the movie should probably stick to the original game, as it’s far more entertaining than this rather formulaic megaways version.

What are the bonus features?

It’s a bit unusual that the megaways version of a game is toning things down when it comes to the bonus features, but this is exactly what Blueprint has done with Ted Megaways slot. Instead of overwhelming you with features like the original game did, Blueprint has gone back to the basics with this one. You need to land at least 4 scatters on the same spin to trigger the Thunder Buddies Free Spins bonus round in this game. This feat will grant you 12 free spins to start out with. We are huge fans of the original Ted game, as we love the movie and the cheeky remarks from the beer drinking, chain-smoking teddy bear. We therefore had high hopes when we learned that the Megaways version was on the way. We could hardly wait to get started with our 200 spins test run of Ted Megaways slot, and here’s how it all played out.

We immediately noticed that a lot less is happening in the base game here, compared to the original medium variance slot. This is a highly volatile game, and the base game will offer up plenty of dead spins and smaller wins. It’s easy to miss all the fun antics and features from the first game, but it helps to remind yourself that you’re dealing with a completely different math model here.

You therefore need to get into this game with a very different mindset. If you just want to have fun, go for the original game, as this version is aimed at more serious gamblers. We were tempted to buy the bonus round a few times, but kept grinding along a while more instead. Suddenly we landed 3 scatters on the reels, and Ted kept repeating “come on, bring it on, come on!”

We got a few okay wins towards the end, due to the 9x multiplier we’d manage to rack up, but won only 49.6x our stake in total. Not exactly a mega win, but this is how it can go with high risk/reward games like this.

Review Summary

We are a bit surprised that Blueprint would cut down the number of features so drastically from the original game. We get that they want it to fit into their “blueprint” for megaways engine games, but a Ted game is all about his antics and jibes, and there is significantly less of that here too. What you get with Ted Megaways is really just a reskin of Return of Kong Megaways, which is a bit disappointing.

Blueprint could have easily made this game unique and more “Ted fans friendly” by adding, for example, 3 random Ted features to the base game. This would have made the base game less of a grind also. Now you get only the standard cascading reels and mystery symbols. At least the bonus round is solid enough, however, with the possibility of payouts up to 50,000x your stake. As a standalone effort Ted Megaways is a good enough game, but it still feels a bit like a missed opportunity that lacks the charm and amusement of the first game in the series.
