Shark Blitz Review

Playtech has had great success with their Blitz series so far, but not all of the installments are hooked up to the actual Blitz Jackpot Network. Shark Blitz takes you away from the prairies of the Buffalo Blitz trilogy, and the African savannah in the Blitz jackpot follow-up release, Rhino Blitz. The visual presentation is even simpler than you might be used to, and the 3-5-5-5-5-3 grid looks almost like a submarine at periscope depth halfway under water.

The shark looks mighty impressive on the splash screen, but it’s not so scary when it appears in a smaller size as a symbol. Playtech has succeeded in creating a somewhat tense atmospheric soundtrack, very suitable to the theme, and we only wish there was an animated shark swimming by now and then to complete the picture. The bonus round with upgradable multiplier wilds is what it’s all about, as well as the randomly triggered progressive Blitz Jackpot Game.

The sea creature premium symbols pay between 4 and 6 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and you win by landing 2+ matching premiums (or 3+ royals) in any position on adjacent reels from left to right. The Diamond Wild can appear on reels 2 to 6 only, and it steps in for all pay symbols to help complete winning combinations.

The Trigger Crunch feature can help you trigger the bonus round, as it gives you 2 scatters added to the grid at random times. The Bonus Round triggers when you land 3+ scatters anywhere in view, and you secure 8, 10, 12 or 15 free spins when you land 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters, respectively.

Retriggering the bonus round is not uncommon, and each retrigger upgrades the Diamond Wild multiplier.

Review Summary

Shark Blitz is perhaps the least impressive release in the Blitz series when it comes to the visual presentation, but we get that this “classic look” is done on purpose.

Players seem to enjoy it if we are to judge from previous installments, like Buffalo Blitz (1 and 2) and Rhino Blitz. The 3-5-5-5-5-3 grid does not expand in the bonus round, like in some previous releases, but you get a solid 5,625 ways to win at all times instead.

The random Trigger Crunch feature can be quite helpful when it comes to triggering the all-important bonus round, and getting plenty of retriggers didn’t seem all that hard once you’ve gotten your “foot inside the door”, so to speak. The feature can thus go on for a lot longer than you might expect up front, and the multiplier wilds can do damage to the tune of 37,500x your stake. This is not really our cup of tea however, but fans of the Blitz range will probably enjoy it.
