We were not very impressed by Wizard Games’ Megaways debut, Rumble Rhino Megaways, so it’s nice to see that they’ve stepped up their game significantly in this second dynamic reels release; Dragons of the North Megaways. The dragon-centric fantasy theme is similar to the original Dragons of the North, which has been a pretty solid success since it was released back in 2019.

The dynamic grid with up to 117,649 win ways adds another dimension to the gameplay, and you get several new modifiers in the top Dragon Bonus Reel. The jackpots are long gone though, but cash prizes up to 1,000x are possible. Respins with progressively increasing win ways is a notable modifier, and although nothing extra is offered in the bonus round, the modifiers seem to trigger more frequently.

Dragons of the North Megaways is far superior to Wizard Games’ Megaways debut, with its ridiculously low 2,000x potential, so it seems they’ve learned their lesson. The visuals are not too shabby either, and fans of the original will probably enjoy it.

As for the dragon bonus reel above the regular grid, it’s an innovative way to introduce modifiers and features. The respins feature where the win ways increase per spin is a good way to demonstrate the horsepower of the Megaways engine, but the bonus round could’ve done with a progressive multiplier of some kind. Eggs seemed to land more often though, and the bonus round came across as far more eventful than the base game. The default 18,648x potential is solid, although it will vary a bit with different RTP settings.
